OUR HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Starting from a small farm filled with a passion for horses, we faced a crucial challenge: securing consistent, high-quality feed.

 

The inconsistency of feed products for thoroughbred horses often leads to colic, a painful and costly digestive disorder. Determined to overcome this issue, we embarked on a journey of self-sufficiency by planting a five-hectare plot of Eragrostis grass in 2017. The results spoke for themselves, with improved horse health and increased interest from horse owners seeking consistent, quality feed.

 

Farming has always been in our family bloodline and within a couple years of starting to grow the different grass feeds, we have been blessed and our grass-growing operation has since flourished, now spanning hundreds of hectares, and our success has been driven by word-of-mouth referrals. Our humble beginnings have blossomed into a thriving business that provides a solution to the prevalent challenge of inconsistent feed quality and its consequences.

 

Our farming operations range from the production of round roles to square bales, from dry land farming to farming with irrigation pivots to also producing our own Lucerne Chaff and Pellets.

We take pride in our fully owned process that covers the entire value chain. This allows us to ensure that every aspect of our production is of the highest quality. From planting to processing, we take care of every step in-house. We make sure to fertilize our crops properly and weed regularly to maintain optimal growth. We also produce our own feed and immediately store our bales in a ventilated, cool environment to ensure a fresh product. To maintain this high quality, we make the necessary investments and continuously strive to improve. Our customers can trust that they are getting an A-grade quality product every time they purchase from us.

Soil quality and elimination of weeds

  • We don’t only fertilize and weed at the beginning of each season to ensure that there is no foreign matter contaminating our A-grade products, we also fertilize and analyse our soils annually to understand what shortages of minerals may prevail, and from there we address the shortages ensuring our products remain A-grade.
  • By spreading fertilizer across our lands during the season, the soil is further enriched by adding the required minerals to aid the growth of protein from the roots to the leaves and plant base.

Storage of bales

  • After the cutting and baling process, we move it as quickly as possible to our covered storage facility. The process is automised to avoid excessive handling as much as possible in order to protect the product and packaging.
  • The covered storage ensures no wastage of the bales on the outside perimeter of the bale, as they are stored under roof and not exposed to outside elements, remaining green, cool and dry at all times, minimising the loss of any nutritional value.
  • By preserving the condition of the bales, the protein content and the roughage content itself is preserved to a large degree.
